Hi Dave,

What software are you using to play back the files?

If they have been downloaded, it's also possible that they are fragmented.
The easiest way to defragment audio files is to copy them, using Finder,
from one volume to another. If you don't have a separate hard drive from the
boot drive, you can create a logical volume with Disk Copy: launch Disk Copy
and create a new read/write disk image large enough to contain the files,
drag them to it, and delete the originals. You can then either recopy them
back to their original folder, or just keep them in the disk image--very
handy for burning to CD-ROM ;-) Believe it or not, this more reliable and
often much quicker than using a defragmenting utility, such as Speed Tools
or TechTool Pro.
