Do you know if your cable is made of stranded wires or solid wires? 
The solid wire is cheaper than the stranded, so I wouldn't be 
surprised to find that someone made patch cables out of solid, but 
patch cables really should use stranded for exactly the reason under 
discussion.  It's more flexible and less likely to break internally 
with a lot of flexing.

I would look around for a patch cable made of stranded wire in a 
local store (may be hard to find someone who knows what type they 
sell) and see if it seems more flexible than your cable.
