I'm changing backup systems soon. I'm currently using Retrospect on the network with a VXA tape drive. Cost per tape = $65 (holds about 45-50 GB compressed).
Anyhow, I'll be upgrading to Retrospect 5 and switching to hard drive backup. I can buy 80 GB UltraATA drives for $80 at CompUSA and a two-drive FireWire enclosure for $60. Backup speed should increase and cost per GB backed up will decrease. Sounds like an all-around winner to me. I'm running backup with my old reliable SuperMac J700, which doesn't have any FireWire support. Looking for recommendations on a FireWire card known to work well in the J700/S900. Doesn't need to provide bus power. Should have two ports. USB not necessary.
