Well you don't really, but you can put a router in 
between and/or use an annonomous surf site (but 
they may be harvesting info).

This site has some Port Checking software as well 
as Speed Test tools and a ton of info about the 
communications industry. I thoughly enjoy the 
advanced murmurings about companies a month or two 
before the fail.
