You may just have hit the anti-jackpot power supply-wise.
Coincindences do happen.

You may wish to check the resistance between the 3.3V and GND and
between 5V and GND pins on your motherboard. There are capacitors
that straddle those connections in order to filter the power. It's
conceivable that you've got a low level short in one of the caps
which is causing your MB to draw too much current and shorten the
life of your PS. It's really unlikely, but it's possible. I think
the resistance from power to GND should be about 500 ohms.
Certainly if it's any lower than that, report back.

Build your own adapter: http://www.io.com/~trag and look for the
file titled Umax_ATX_PS.sea or something like that.

Buy an adapter, the vendor was Power On. I don't the URL, but you
can probably find it from their front page which is where you'd
expect.
