Do you know the make and model of that drive? And is there a diagram (often
a sticker) of the pin layout on the drive casing?

In any event, the drive will need to be SCSI ID:3 and may already be set to
that, and it will be have self-termination disabled being that it is not the
last device in the chain. Also, you may have to alter the audio plug, or
find a different audio cable to fit the new drive's audio output pins.
Rarely does the original audio cable plug fit into non-Matsushita drives.
(Matsushita was the manufacturer of the UMAX OEM CD drives)
