One of the great things about the Acard ATA/66(and Sonnet Tempo ATA/66)
is it will work in any PCI slot and doesn't have the 8GB limitation
many other cards have. It is also cheap now a days. The newer faster
cards will not normally run any faster in an OLD world machine
regardless of what type hard drive you buy.
An issue I ran into with Jaguar 10.2.1....was ram problems that
surprised me because OS 9.1 and OSX all the way up to and including
10.2 ran fine the way I had things setup. It turned out 10.2.1 didn't
like FPM and EDO ram being interleaved nor did it like 70ns ram(older
speed ram which came with the machine) This was really hard to track
down. The FPM ram wasn't labeled so I didn't know I was interleaving it
with EDO ram. So putting the EDO and the FPM ram together and removing
the 70ns chip fixed things. This was after trying endless things buying
a new hard drive I didn't really need etc. But it is nice having the
larger drive ;-) Every upgrade of OSX and faster CPU's seems to have
the possibility of ram issues. OSX seems to be picky about
everything...and every version a bit different about what it doesn't
like. Ram, SCSI and CDrom players seeming to be the main things that
have been an issue. It is hard to track down I think because different
combos of hardware produces different results. So what works for one
person often doesn't for another. When everything is checked it usually
turns out there were differences in hardware that weren't mentioned in
the persons report. Sorry I can't be more helpful. Will S
