Umax J700 with a Sonnet G3 upgrade card, Mac OS 9.1

I recently installed an AsanteFast 690 10/100 PCI card in slot C1 of my
J700. I'm connected to a Siemens 10/100 switched hub. The card functions
fine, except when I'm running Retrospect to backup a SnapServer on our
LAN. Then, after a period, I get this message:

- 10/29/2002 10:03:26 PM: Copying Server on SNAPPY
Can't read file "Server on SNAPPY:ASM:catalog files:Tuesday", error
-1072 (AppleTalk: connection closed).
Trouble reading files, error -1072 (AppleTalk: connection closed)

Appletalk has shut down, and I have to reboot to restore access.

When I'm using the built-in ethernet, everything works fine.

I was wondering if the slot makes any difference? (I haven't messed with
trying a different slot.)

Is there some incompatibility between my J700 and this brand/model of
card?

I've tried setting the card to autosensing and to 'fixed' full duplex

I've posted a question on the Retrospect list and have heard the
following:

>PS: I seem to remember discussions about mis-matching half and full duplex
>where switches are involved. You might want to verify the two ends match.'

>
>Have you hard coded speed and duplex on the switch and NIC? Sounds like
>the port is flapping from one state to another.

Any other thoughts or help?

TIA,

Doug
