Alan- If you've got a good stable system- keep it. You use a computer to do stuff for you and if it ain't broke don't be fixin' it. If you do get curious about other OS's you can always get another HD- even a small one- and use it as a trial platform. 2Gs is enough for OS X.
As far as your scanner goes- Vuescan should work- and I know you've been told that before. Nikon botched it's version of Nikon Scan for X (under 10.2), so I've been using it with my LS-8000 with excellent results. I actually found that OS X was easier to configure than 9 ever was. I am finally to the point where the only thing I need OS 9 for is to record audio onto my HD. XPF hasn't fixed that. I hope it can and will be fixed. Whatever you do don't undervalue a good working System. A lot of us on this list like to tinker a little too much. cheers- -Ford On Friday, November 1, 2002, at 10:42 AM, Alan Kim wrote: > > I'm like many folks out there who have a very stable running 9.1 > with multitude of PCI cards and no need for additional zing. > I'm fearful of opening a can or worms and frankly don't have the mental > capacity these days to deal with the headache. > > I may cross that bridge, perhaps directly onto Jaguar, but only if it > doesn't render my > film scanner and several hard drives useless. > With still only a modem connection (but with very good connection > speed, > thank goodness), > compatibility with that is also a concern. > > After a flurry of storage upgrades and troubleshooting, I'm kindof > burned > out for the time being. > Yes, it seems my S900 is becoming an ancient relic in computer years > and as > X keeps evolving. > > Alan -- SuperMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
