PCI slots A and B (upper slots) are always prefered in the S900. Slot C - F are controled by a PCI-PCI bridge which has some problems with bus master cards. A and B are also faster, it's always a good idea to place your main graphics card there. My suggestion: Asante in slot B, Mach64 in slot A, Twin Turbo in slot C. Use the latest (4.06) drivers for the Twin Turbo, it will work fine in the lower slots. > Problem 2 : CD problems > > I have , I believe, the stock CD that came with the s900; the machine was a > gift. If they don't work, try the old Apple CD driver (5.3.1), it works with most SCSI drives. Download it here: http://www.macdrivermuseum.com/disk.shtml You can also try the Toast Reader extension. > I also want to replace this drive with a RW/DVD drive and would like to > get your comments and recommendation on which brand to buy. Or if someone on > the list has a reliable, working one that they would be interested in > selling, let me know. I use a very cheap, but very reliable LiteOn CDRW (12/10/32), connected to a Acard ATA66 PCI card (which works fine in the lower slots). The internal ATA route is much cheaper than using external SCSI or FireWire devices, the ATA card costs $59 at OWC (www.macsales.com). You can get a 48x IDE burner for the same price.
