Hey! My favorite topic! heh heh I'd say it's safe to assume that the Apple CD driver included with Mac OS 8.5 doesn't recognize/support your Toshiba. You'll need to try a third party utility, the most famous of which is "Intech's CD SpeedTools". It's not free but they have a fairly generous demo... http://www.intechusa.com/CDDemo.html?296,19 Keep in mind that there are other choices beyond Intech's CDST. Like FWB CDROM Toolkit, which came on the original SuperMac System CD. There's a couple of other lesser known one's too, like Radiologic, Charismac, and Sunrise. You might see one or two of those on the Driver Museum link below. Other solutions include Apple's CDROM 5.3.1 driver that seems to work with many non-Apple drives. Whether it'll work with your Toshiba I dunno, you'll have to try it... http://www.macdrivermuseum.com/disk.html Otherwise, there's a way to hack any Apple CD driver, using ResEdit, to make it work with non-Apple drives.
