I wish I'd have had this info a few weeks ago, I couldn't get DVD Player
installed because my DVD-RAM drive is in an external FireWire case.
Apparently the OS X Installer looks for a compatible drive only on the IDE
bus and won't install DVD Player if it doesn't find one.

There is another program though. It's an open source app called "VideoLAN
client". I installed it and was instantly watching a DVD movie with no
problem at all. VideoLAN client, or "vlc" as it's called, is available
here...

I don't know if vlc is any better or worse than DVD Player, but it's another
option at least. It's likely not as polished interface-wise, but it played
movies with no choppiness at all.

Thanks Daniel, now I can extract DVD Player and see if it'll work with my
external DVD-RAM too. Apple really ticked me off with those limitations they
imposed.
