Well, like Jeff mentioned, doing the battery removal thing is much the same as what I had you try. Apparently there was a bug in the E100 firmware that conflicted with the code that upgrade card software wrote to NVRAM, resulting in a black screen that would persist despite the video card being used. It caught more than a few people by surprise, leaving them thinking they had a dead S900/J700. It's clear that that is not your problem though. I wish it was, because it's so easily remedied. > I have no system installed and am just trying to get at most a blank > disk with a question mark flashing or a boot from Norton utilities disk. > I am not using any E100 card or XLR8 software. > > I do get a sudden flash on the 2 monitors that I have tried. At least I can't imagine what else would be causing the lack of a signal to the PCI bus. But like Jeff mentioned, there's some pretty darn cheap motherboards on eBay, if it comes to that. I do have one other thought though, and yes, it's another long shot... Every time I mucked about with processor upgrades with my XLR8 CarrierZif, I would pull the processor card, change the zif, reinsert the processor card, push the cuda, etc. etc.. On many of those tries, I'd get a black screen, no video. I'd then shut down, or retry the cuda, sometimes with no luck. I'd remove the processor card and reseat it and do the whole process again and again until all of a sudden I'd get video and smile. Once I was so frustrated with no video, that I reinserted my old original 604e daughtercard just to make sure the damned machine was still working. So my point is that the processor card can be the cause of no video too. Pull it, reseat it, try another if you can. It sounds like you've been down that road if you've torn down the machine. But just in case, I thought I'd mention it. -Howie -- SuperMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
