Hi Bill,
     I'm in the market for a faster cd rom and the 40x Plextor scsi and 
the older 32x Toshiba scsi caught my attention - a little digging 
revealed that they will both work on a mac with third party drivers or a 
hacked Apple driver - they sell for quite low prices too.
