I have this problem with my G4 AGP - but only with OS X. If I boot in 9.2.2 it wakes from sleep mode without any problems. I've taken out my PCI cards, zapped the PRAM, etc., etc., etc., but nothing seems to solve the problem. This has been going on for over a year now.
