Also, I believe some stock CD-ROM drives don't support digital playback.
I'm using Intech's CD/DVD Speedtools (V. 6) which has an "enable digital
playback" option in the control panel.  I can play CD's on my external
Yamaha CD-RW (CR8424), but the internal Matsushita (CR-506) doesn't support
it.  If I disable this feature I can play audio CD's over the regular analog
cable.
