Atto's pro tools will allow you to initialize your drive as well as 
providing a good SCSI benchmark with and without the MacOS ram cache. I 
don't know if it will benchmark an IDE drive as I don't do IDE. FWB's 
HDT has a good benchmarking utility, but I don't think you can download 
a freebie anywhere.
