Well today I got to the bottom of not being able to write to my DVD/RAM drive because the disk is "Locked".
Last week, I took the drive to a friends place who has a newer Apple G4 and hooked it up directly to his ATA cable. We were able to begin writing to the drive without a hitch. Brought it back home and hooked it back up to my VST Ultratek ATA/66 card. Same problem, Can't copy to this device because disk is Locked. Today I took my VST card and the drive and we hooked the drive up via the VST card. Tried to copy a file to the DVD/RAM and what-do-you-think, the Disk is Locked. So, it would appear that the VST ATA/66 Ultratek PCI card is not compatible with Apple Rommed DVD/RAM drives and it's not isolated to my machine. Lesson: make sure your ATA card will run the drives you intend before you buy. Of course, I didn't know in February that I would buy a DVD/RAM drive but there is a problem with the two. Now I have to find a solution. Dave -- SuperMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
