The only problem with the "buy another card" solution is that there's no assurance your device will work with any other card either, unless you have reports from folks that it does. Hopefully, you'll get some card recommendations. Have you searched XLR8yourmac.com's drive compatibility database? It's kind of difficult to find the kind of info you're looking for in it, but a few hours spent browsing should turn up whatever's available.
