The thing to look for with a USB card is some where on the box it
should say something about : OpenHCI Specs or OHCI support.
There is another type of card but the name/ specs for it I've forgotten
and it only works with Windows but is fairly rare. Any OHCI card should
work with a Mac! I bought a fairly cheap SigII PC and it works fine.
USB 2 port cards nearly always work fine in OSX, some 4 port cards
didn't always work but that may have been fixed with Jaguar.(the 4 port
cards worked fine with OS 9.x) I've seen no mention of 5 port cards on
Mac's so can't say for sure.
The official Apple Word on USB 2.0 is correct but like many official
words is also wrong! It is true Apple doesn't have any USB 2.0 drivers
at this time. However USB 2.0 cards work fine in Mac OSX if the the
device comes with Mac OSX USB 2.0 drivers. If not it will work as USB
1.1. It will say on the box and there are CDRW ,external hard drives
etc that do come with OSX drivers for USB 2.0. There are how ever no
USB 2.0 drivers for Mac OS 8/9.x and may never be as the future is OSX.

Will S ( who has issues with official words with a ring of truth to
them but are false at the same time ;-)
