My apologies for not responding to the initial advice. I sent my first post to the list and then promptly left for an extended holiday. Not a very "list friendly" thing to do!

I did the plug connections and crimping myself. In fact, I even put new ends on both sides to be sure I hadn't screwed up the first batch. It does seem plausible that it could be the RJ-45 connector itself. Despite the fact that I can take my laptop or another Mac into the room and make a successful connection doesn't eliminate the possibility that it's the combination of this particular Asante card and the RJ-45 connector. I'll check this out this weekend. Again, I apologize for seeming indifferent to everyone's responses to my initial post. I sincerely appreciate any input that the list can offer!
