I also have a C500 bought new. I added an IBM 40 GB DeskStar HD. It
was plug an play as the jumpers on the IBM are set for use in a C500.
Newegg.com had the best prices for the drive: IBM 40GB 5400RPM
07N3926/07N3542 Deskstar 40GV Ultra ATA/100 8.5ms Average Seek Time -
OEM, Drive Only - 3 year manufacturer warranty--* Works With PC & Mac
*-- Model#: 07N3926/07N3542, $ 86 USD.
I added a Sonnet G3 board and maxed out the memory also. The C500 runs
OS 9.1 without complaint. Good luck.
