I also have a C500 bought new. I added an IBM 40 GB DeskStar HD. It was plug an play as the jumpers on the IBM are set for use in a C500. Newegg.com had the best prices for the drive: IBM 40GB 5400RPM 07N3926/07N3542 Deskstar 40GV Ultra ATA/100 8.5ms Average Seek Time - OEM, Drive Only - 3 year manufacturer warranty--* Works With PC & Mac *-- Model#: 07N3926/07N3542, $ 86 USD.
