Try reinstalling, it sounds like something got corrupted during the 
install. You sound like you are going to be doing a rather large system 
upgrade (OSX), I'd format the whole drive and start from scratch. It'll 
catch a lot of little issues that can turn into big ones. Just a 
suggestion though.
