I have a C500 with the Sonnet G3/400 card and a PCI USB card (can't remember the brand but it works just fine with the digital camera). I bought a LaCie USB CD burner and haven't been pleased with the results (I'm using the Toast Lite software which came with the burner). I'm not sure what the problem is, but the first one is it is definitely slow. I have successfully burned a few CD's but only at 1X speed. I figured it was just my older computer not thru-putting the info fast enough. I've also made a lot of coasters at all the speeds (4X, 2X & 1X). Lately I haven't been able to get it to work at all. I went to the LaCie website and downloaded the latest driver (newer than the one which came with the burner) but in the ReadMe it said it required OS9.1. So now I have to upgrade from 9.0 in order to try the new driver to see if that will solve any problems. Of course, as others have mentioned, it might just be the fact that its a slow USB rather than a faster SCSI (I wish I had discovered this list sooner!). But even with a slow connection, I would hope that I could burn CDs successfully. I don't burn enough to make me to impatient to wait an hour for it to finish. I do get impatient when a half hour into the process the whole thing stops and gives me a coaster for my troubles. Any thoughts or suggestions on my problem (as well as the warning to Doug)?
