8.6 will run fine recommeded if you have a low end 604 or less than 
64MB RAM. If you've got the memory (min 64MB, 128MB a lot better) and a 
604 in the 200MHz range, go for 9.1 or 9.2.2, if you use the hacks at 
<www.os9forever.com>. You wouldn't notice a speed difference over 8.6 
and gain some of the new goodies

You can even run OS 10.1.5 on a 604, but it is rather slow. If you feel 
like living dangerously though check the hacks for this out as 
<www.macsales.com> click on the OSX Center link at the top of the 
second page.
