I was looking at a description page about this Umax and It comes with a firewire card that is usable in Windows and Mac. Could It be a "firmware" issue...I would try another card, I have a cheap OWC and an XLR8 MACHfire in my machines. and their not "slot" dependent. Hope this helps.
