If it is a software _install_ disc, it will probably work. If it is the
software _restore_ disc, it probably won't.

OS 9 includes some real benefits in networking, file system management, USB
and FireWire support, and little enhancements, especially with Finder.
You'll definitely want to upgrade to 9.0.4 or 9.1; the consensus is that
these are the most stable releases.

It's also a lot stricter about certain programming practices, so there were
several applications that seemed to "break" under it. All those benefits
come at a cost in CPU usage.

The cleanest install is to back everything up, reformat the drive--you'll
need to at least update the drivers, anyway--and install to a clean drive.
Next best, if the drive is large enough, is to choose the "Clean Install"
option, which renames your current System Folder to "System Folder (Old)",
and creates a new one. This gives you the option of selectively copying old
preferences and extensions to the new System Folder as desired.
