Jeff, I knew this would be of interest to you Mr Hardware hacking man ;-) Chrisso did a good job of explaining but of course i have to put my two cents in ;-) I've read the English and most of the German at the forum site and here's the deal. The PC ATI card needs to be in a PC and is then flashed with a generic MAC ROM flasher. Virtual PC won't work it's been tried. The card is then moved to the Mac to flash with the MAC ROM update from ATI for the MAC Radeon Edition /7000 which ATI just made available . It is done like this because the Mac Edition ROM flasher is an updater and needs a MAC ROM on the card for it to run and work. When all is done you now have a Mac Edition 64mb card.(or is it aATI 7000 Mac ed?) The card that was used was the PC ATI 7000 64 MB DDR PCI Video card. It wasn't made by ATI but by Sapphire of Germany who makes ATI video cards by license using I think ATI chips bought from ATI. "Clone" ATI cards are a new thing and have not been available at retail in the USA. I have found this card on line for $44.00 including shipping! An amazing price. Circuit City a chain electronics store has the ATI version for $69.99 which is about as cheap as it can be found on line by the time you pay shipping. The ATI card hasn't been tested( we aren't yet sure it is the same a the Sapphire card) but I'm just about to run out the door and buy one....unless I change my mind.... I'll update you if I do.
