  Both www.newegg.com and www.allstarshop.com have the Sapphire OEM (ATI)
Radeon 7000 DDR PCI card for $44.00 including shipping! So far the Sapphire
64mb card which also includes the extra ports doesn't seem to be available in
the USA. A number of people seem to have been happy newegg buyers. I've never
used either company both are located in California, USA
  I will likely post a review of my new video card if people want to hear more >>

Will, please post your review. It would be very, VERY helpful if, in the
review, you included a complete list of ATI-related extensions and controls
panels needed to make the card work, by name and version number.

Also, any ancilliary files (such as something called "OpenGL"?) that will be
needed to make the card functional, again, including both name and version number.

Something like this ought to go into the SuperMac "FAQ" that is being put
together, as a source for a high-quality, but low-buck, video card.

I'm continuing to research the "dual-headed" Sapphire cards.

Here is a URL that gives a description of the Sapphire 32mb card, part number
100943-SR:

Here is a detailed pic of that card:

Here is a URL that describes the Sapphire 64mb card, part number 100942-SR:
<http://shop.store.yahoo.com/pcsound/483264.html>
Here is a detailed pic of that card:

I'm wondering how "close" these are to the "official" Radeon 7000 Mac edition
(which is a "dual-headed" card, right, i.e., 2 connection ports both live at
the same time, one of them a DVI-type port?)?

For comparison, go here to find a pic of the "official" ATI Radeon 7000 "Mac
Edition" card:
<http://maccentral.macworld.com/news/0205/06.radeon7000.php>
You will note that it is _very_ similar to the 32mb version of the Sapphire
card (I printed out images of the Sapphire cards for reference). Not _exactly_
the same, but remember, the Sapphire cards are made with the ATI "engine"
under license, is this correct? The fact that the manufacturers are different
may account for the very high similarity of design but slight variation in
components actually used in assembly.

One thing I've discovered -- at least about the "official" Radeon Mac card --
is that [according to ATI's spec page] it does not show support for 832x624,
my resolution of choice on a 17" Trinitron. Does anyone have experience
otherwise? This would be a deal-killer for me (sigh).

Thanks,
- John
