John, My machine while being used is still not put back together as
normal. There just aren't enough hours in the day ..... I will try and
get a review up in time with all the info. However the card works in
OSX jaguar 10.24 with no fuss no mess. OS 9.1 to my surprise it boots
and runs fine without the "correct" Open GL " files and etc but not
scrolling is slower then it would be with the correct files. I no
longer use OS 9.x for much of anything.
The FAQ I'm not so sure of that. The very fact this has been talked
about so much will likely cause it to soon no longer be an option for
most people. The Flasher files will soon be impossible to find as ATI
will remove the files from their website. I wouldn't be surprised if
the Sapphire cards soon disappear from the USA. Cheaper clone cards
with more features aren't what they were hoping forwhen they licensed
they chips.

John Did you read my last post to you about the fact the cards you were
looking at were the wrong cards for use in a PCi slot in a UMAX
machine? These like the others are AGP slot cards and no old World Mac
has an AGP slot. The correct card is much closer to the Mac 7000 card
in fact it is the same I think except for the heat sink and logo and
it's black rather then green like the ATI card. Yes the Sapphire cards
are powered by ATI chips or something to that effect and made under
license.

The ATI 7000 32mb DDR PCi card which I flashed and am using now with my
Apple Display 17 in does work with the 832x624 which is a nicer size
then the 800x600 I normally use . However for some reason with my
monitor it runs at 75 mhz rather then 85mhz like the other size.
Number of colors has no effect on this. My eyes tire easily so the
higher rez I can get the better.

I am gong to post the links to the correct Sapphire card here:
.jpg of Sapphire 32 mb card:
http://www.newegg.com/app/Showimage.asp?image=14-102-247-01.jpg/14-102-
247-02.jpg/14-102-247-03.jpg

link for info and buying:
http://www.newegg.com/app/
ViewProduct.asp?catalog=48&DEPA=1&submit=property&mfrcode=0&propertycode
=&propertycodevalue=3039,3673

It is the one listed as ATI OEM Radeon 7000 32 mb DDR and is $44.00

I think that has answered many of your questions. I just compaired
another close up of the Sapphire 32mb card with your Mac 32mb card and
they are the same except for the heatsink, logo and color. The Sapphire
does come with the SVideo out cable for tv but not the DVi to VGA for
the second port. That is $7-8.00 extra for those that need it. later
