No, with OS X you really should look to Vuescan. It works well with my UMAX Vista S12, and I rarely ever boot into OS 9 anymore, so Vistascan is of no interest to me at all anymore. Sure it works, but unless you dwell in OS 9, it's of no importance really. UMAX won't likely be writing any software for our old scanners running under OS X, so to hell with them.
