  Jeff,

a quick bit of googlin suggested that the card has a realtek 8139c 
chipset. a quick trip to:


http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloads1-3.aspx?series=16&Software=True#16Others

indicated that if it is indeed a 8139c, realtek has drivers for MacOS 
 >8.5. Download and install said drivers, reboot, and you should be able 
to select "connect via" in the tcp/ip cp and choose ethernet. All other 
setup should be via dhcp. IMHO, most cable internet techs are idiots.
