Paul , Yes this works! After Jaguar getting my printer to work without
buying a new one was the last piece of the puzzle! Gimp print works
great with the USB to Parallel Printer cable hooked to my Epson Stylus
850. Which is just one model newer then yours in the same series. Read
all about it at :

Like you I didn't want to pay the high price for the Mac USB to
Parallel cable. I went to a large computer store that carries lots of
parts and that does have Macs. I noticed that many cables talked about
being " IEEE 1284 Compliant" I went to the Pc cable area and found a
cheap cable marked "IEEE 1284 Compliant" and bought it for $19.99 USA
The Mac brands were like $40-60.00 USA. Took it home hooked it up and
it worked to my shock! It is brand name "inland" ( no caps) Likely you
have different brands where you live. Keystone is a brand many have
said doesn't work. In fact i don't think anyone got that brand to work.
Gimp print has lots of info on brands of cable that work and etc. Gimp
print comes with really good info on how to set it up. You need to
follow carefully as it is a bit tricky and works a bit different then
expected. I have full control of my printer even more control then with
Epson drivers in OS 9. For example you can print to the pages edges
with out the large margins. The only thing lacking is the gauge for the
ink tanks. You would need to boot into OS 9.x to check them. later Will
