Count me among the success stories. I have a 32 MB Sapphire 7000 running oin my 7500. Much thanks to Will and John Albert. We had been getting the dreaded ASIC ERROR every time. I'm not sure what exactly put us over. The last try we did several things differently. The card was only recognized by the flash program after we plugged the monitor into it as opposed to the existing card. We also took the old card out. Having only one card made the flash program work and we got all the right numbers when doing the flashrom -i command. So far, so good. We then backed up the PC ROM twice before the flash. Next, we flashed the card with a ROM from John, something he did himself following instructions from the German forum for this card as it runs @ 166, not the speed of the faster 64 meg version. We were a bit nervous doing it on an active card which was why we didn't try it before, but knowing that the card needs to have a monitor plugged in on the Mac to start up, I figured it was worth a try. The card continued to work fine (in DOS) after the flashing, so we shut down and put it in the 7500. It works fine there too.
I don't have a great way to run vid tests except an old version of Norton. Also, there are now TONS of choices for resolutions , a great many of which my little Sony 15" doesn't support. I'll keep you informed as things progress and I do some more tests. BTW, I'm using the most recent drivers. As the driver topic has resurfaced, should I be going back a year to all old drivers or just the manager file?
John, do you want to make your file available? Also, I'm not comfortable quoting a private message without permission. You certainly have mine if you just want to put your instructions to me up as well. They make it easier to understand how to select the right ROM file without having to change the names of the various ROM that are out there.
