In several cases simply shutting down, disconnecting the SCSI chain, restarting the computer, shut down again, then reconnect the SCSI devices and start up - cures the problem. My scanner has a termination switch on the back - if yours does make sure it is in the right position. SCSI greminlins can be very vexing at times.
