I had a similar question when shopping for a power supply at Radio
Shack to replace a dead one for a printer.  The amperage rating
of a power supply represents the maximum current that it can provide.
So as long as it's greater than what the total current draw of all attached
devices will be, then it will work.  If you think of it, each circuit in
your
house can provide 20-40 amps, though individual items connected to
those circuits generally come nowhere near that much current need.

By the way, when I was at Radio Shack, the guy I spoke to gave me
the wrong info about this.
