Well I tried it here using both known good WD and a Seagate drives that I
formatted on this machine which work normally when connected to the IDE
card.  So the drives are fine.

Good question on what I used to format but I'm pretty certain it was 9.1
Drive Setup.  What type of formatting would you suggest?

Tom,

Yeah I tried both Master and Cable Select.  And yeah, I even tried the
Single on the WD.  

I'm also downloading some brand new HDST and FWB updates right now from
MacUpdate to see if they make any difference.
