Welcome Eric.

I personally use a G3/500 from PowerLogix in my S900 and have been 
very happy with it. You will get a variety of opinions on CPU 
upgrades from this list. Since you do not intend to go OS X, a G3 
with higher clock speed is probably better than a G4 with lower, 
unless you use AltiVec a lot (e.g., a lot of PhotoShop and the like). 
But all the vendors have G4's if that's what you really want.
