I thought I'd add an addendum to Will's piece about the Sapphire to
comment on the excellent rendering capabilities of the 64MB card in Pshop
6 and Painter 7. The rendering is virtually instant even on complex Pshop
filtering like the lighting effects - I applied a complex lighting effect
to a 10 MB image and there was no progress bar at all.
Similarly in Painter 7 which used to run like a slug with lagging
render - the card renders instantly in real time due to the 183mhz Pixel
Tapestry rendering engine aboard - fantastic rendering speed.
I'm running it with 9.2.2 on a Umax Pulsar and a 8600/250 with a
Formac ProNitron 17/600 1600x1200 trinitron with .25mm dot pitch at
1280x1024 (I need thicker specs for anything higher though I have the
option of 2048x1152) with D65 temp and the Formac ICC profile and the
screen is fantastically sharp and a real pleasure to work on - I have
Suitcase in here with 1000+ fonts and they look incomparably better
rendered.
I am very impressed with the graphics capabilities of the card - I
don't know how the Pixel engine knows how to take over from the mobo
processor but it's an enormous improvement.
