Hi all

I've got a weird problem here with my J700. When I access the menubar,
for any function, the box locks up. So far I have:

Unplugged, removed clock batter, done CUDA dance
zapped PRAM repeatedly
removed flakey hard drive when it died, taking all my email with it :-(((
installed compllete, new OS 8.5 9 (from scratch) and 8.6 update with
apple disk tools formatted IBM 4 gig SCSI drive

tried with M$, Netscape, Mozilla

I can launch apps with it, capture video etc. and the problem happens
with either the 604e or the new 315MHz G3 card, regardless of its cache
being on or off, or at what speed. Its an older G3 card, so its bus is
maxed out at 45MHz, this box runs 55MHz all day with the 604 card. I
tried it at various bus and CPU speed combos, same deal.

Is there a ROM in this box, and can it be corrupted? Can I reflash or
remove it, and if I stick a powermac ROM in the system folder (as from a
later MAC) will that take the place of the built in one? IIRC the menu
bar stuff is all in the ROM, and thats the only area that ever malfunctions.

Thanks

Bolton
