Couple of things about Spam...(and from a Microsoft products user) DON'T give out you're email address to ANY WEB SITE. Always check to make sure that you scroll to the end of the page and uncheck , please send me email announcements about xyz product/company. I often use [EMAIL PROTECTED] as a filler address when I need to give one. Also use a hotmail/yahoo address for online purchasing to receive you're confirmation notices. Set your preferences in the Internet control panel to a BLANK line for you're email address. And also in Internet Explorer. Remember what the keyboard command is in you're web browser to access the preferences to then change the cookies never ask/accept/deny level. If you use IE, once you access it, the next time you access the preferences it goes straight to the cookies options. Plus you don't have to restart, it takes affect immediately.
For the more advanced... Check out web washer. <http://www.webwasher.com> It is free and also works for the PC. And it does more than just block pop-ups. (My fianc has been having pop-up problems and we installed it, along with the INCREDIABLE Ad-aware program. As a Mac user I am thankful that my computer cannot be hijacked like those PC's can. Check out www.lavasoft.de) An good read for those interested in the history and figuring out where Spam comes from, I recommend reading the "Stopping Spam" book by Alan Schwartz & Simson Garfinkel from the famous O'Reilly publisher. It's a bit old now, 1998, but still has good information about understanding Spam. I just checked Amazon and it's out of print but has good links to other relevant books that are more current... <http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1199000426/qid=1051725056/sr= 8-1/ref=sr_8_1/102-5491113-2500921?v=glance&s=books&n=507846> (Don't know if this link will work if you just click, you might have to copy and paste, watchout for that possible invisible line-feed return!) --(up on soapbox)-- If you really want Spam free-ness think of it this way... Think of you're social security number. Do you just give it out to the stranger standing next to you at the line at Starbucks? No, of course not! Treat your email the same way... In this era where technology is becoming increasing important and powerful, you need to learn the skills to protect yourself, your information and develop the skills to work/play in this environment. Resolve yourself to the fact that you need to develop "password remembering" skills. Start out by first quitting allowing your browser to automatically logging you into your favorite web sites... --(step off soapbox)-- -- Eric Henao S900/200mHz OS 9.2.2 528mb RAM Twin Turbo 128M (slot 1) ATI Rage Orion (slot 2) Sonnet ATA 100 Controller Card (slot 3) D-Link 10/100 Ethernet Card (slot 4) Keyspan 2 port USB (1.1) (slot 5) Unibrain 3 port Firewire (slot 6) > Nancy Haitz <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Wrote: >> I am using OSX's Mail application for all my email.
