Mark:

My experience has been that usually the monitor will reset itself. You might try unplugging the monitor, turning it off, and then plugging everything back in and firing it up.

Alternatively, hmmmm, if you could grab another monitor and boot up you could change the setting or throw away the Monitors preference file.

I have an S900 (OS 9.1) with an HP71 monitor attached. I was fiddling
with some of the controls to see if I could move the display away from
the Incredibly Fuzzy setting. When I changed the resolution in the
Monitors Control Panel, the monitor went black save for an "Out of Range"
message which I have been unable to get rid of.

I have tried restarting from the original disc or even a TechTool Pro
disc--holding down 'c' doesn't work that I can see (and of course I can't
because the monitor is black!).
I have tried holding com-opt-p-r to reset the PRAM: held it down before
the startup tone and until it chimed again and I still get the Out of
Range monitor.

How do I get back to a standard res?
