It is very common for PC users to pay someone to install cards and software because they go
through these problems with every upgrade!

When I had my 486 going I once paid CompUSA $90 just to reinstall all of my existing software (mainly Windows). Just didn't make sense how to do it.

Info on how to do it on one machine doesn't work the same at all on another so is very hard to give help through email etc. So it makes it very hard to write up a how to.

You're telling me. During my flailing around I thought maybe if I upgraded the BIOS it would then give me more choices to shut off/turn on various things on the board. That's when I forgot which key gets you into BIOS. Google and Dell's own site revealed how to do it, but I was amazed to learn how many different key combos there are for this, even within the same manufacturer. I can see it now: "We're going to make OUR brand special by changing the BIOS key to F6!" or whatever. Talk about asinine.

Anyway, I'm currently diagnosing an extension/CP conflict. Seems disabling some things and enabling others in 9.2.2 (like part of the special Radeon software) creates a crash shortly after the startup screen shows --- no extensions load at the bottom of the screen. When I boot with ext. off or severely reduced it goes fine. But that's small potatoes considering where I've been.
