Hey To You All!!!!!!
I'm trying to find the proper RAM for my UMAX c600. The problem is this all specs I have seen for my puter is that all the RAM companies say my UMAX has 16mb onboard. When infact I have 8mb EDO onboard, And what RAM is the best to use EDO or Fast Page. I also have a Sonnet G3/400MHz upgrade card. Someone PLEASE!!!! HELP
Link Mack =-)
It's not likely that your C600 has 8 mb or ram rather then 16mb on the motherboard. What is likely is Apple system profiler or other software is reporting the wrong answer!
While the official UMAX answer is that you can use Fast page or EDO ram in that machine the truth seems to be different.
For the best results use EDO 2 k refresh ram. The C500/600 will take a maximum of 2 64mb chips bringing you up to 144mb of ram. Using 4 k refresh ram in these machines will result in only half the ram being usable. ie 64 mb chip will be seen as 32 mb chip etc.
Mine an many others results with using Fast page ram is that you can't use two 64 mb chips the machine will either only see one chip or refuse to boot with both in the machine. Last but not least make sure you buy ram from a place that will take it back if it doesn't work correctly in your machine. Many places will sell you the wrong ram. OWC is a good place to buy at a bargain price .

PS. Before you start posting... The S900/J700 is a different story as to type of ram to use.
