Hi there, me again. I have a line on an "XLR8 ZIF Carrier, and ZIF
processor." I'm told that "the carrier allows for using your choice of ZIF
G3 or G4 up to about 600 MHz. It is usable in most clones, including the
C500." My source continues, "I will include a 266 MHz G3 processor, which
runs at 300 MHz in most machines." Asking price is $75 shipped.

Unfortunately I know nothing about this. What I'm trying to do is squeeze
whatever speed I can out of my c500 on 8.6 with 144 MB RAM without getting a
new computer which is financially beyond me.

At least to my knowledge, your source is talking nonsense. The ZIF-sockets in the c500/c600 are of a very special kind; that means that, unfortunately, you can NOT use every ZIF-card. I think that Mactell and phase5 once used to make compatible cards, but apparently they are now difficult to find. If you do not mind that you will not be able to use OS X, you are probably better off with an L2-card (goes into the socket for the Level 2 cache). These cards should be fairly easy to find at ebay.

Hope this helps.
