The company is Apple. The computer is a Mac. >True true there are no pci-x cards for mac but there are pci cards >that can take advantage of a higher bus speed limiting the 2 thousand >dollar model to 33 mhz is ridiculous Then don't buy one. >The reason i pointed out the ram issue seems to have eluded everyone >here for the most part before now you could buy the cheaper mac and >upgrade it yourself to the highest spec this is not true for the >cheapest G5.... That is correct. The entire system must be matched to the CPU. >Also before now cpu speed hasn't been solely dependent on the fsb >multiplier which means all apple is doing is making one chip and >different motherboards that support different bus speeds before it was >dependent on the clock this allowed apple to use one chip and overclock >it to gain higher speeds whether they are doing this or not i am not >saying but it is weird how the cpu speed jumps in direct collation with >the cpu speed. IBM makes the PowerPC 970 (G5) chip, not Apple. The PPC 970 can only run at double FSB speed, so any overclocking could have to be done to both the CPU and the memory bus at the same time -- if the G5 motherboard even allows such to be done. That said, Apple has not sold *any* computer has having a CPU upgrade path for years -- let alone ever supporting overclocking. >The Pentium 4 at 2 ghz never was advertised to be the end all and run >nearly as fast the the 3Ghz model We've always known the 3 GHz speed was more hype than reality. With the G5, Apple has the superior processor and the superior memory architecture. The memory bus is so fast that there's no need for a level 3 cache -- system RAM is accessed as fast as L3 memory is on most computers. Intel's television ads certainly tried to position the P4 as the only CPU that would provide "out of this world" performance. And the reason Intel never publishes CPU comparisons is that AMD takes them to the cleaner every time. Benchmarks show Intel CPUs and Microsoft operating systems for the inferior products they are. >And i don't think the listmon should get so personal with users if i am >attacking someone kick me off but if i am stating facts and straighten >up some unclear facts that are going around what can you really say >besides Then please get your facts straight. Like who makes the Mac and who makes the CPU. It's been 24 hours -- lets hope we can put this thread to rest now. Dan the listmom -- SuperMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
