From: "Philip Hannath" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Date: Wed, 3 Sep 2003 09:51:48 +0100 Hi there
I want to upgrade my s900 to a G3 or (financial miracle permitting) a G4.
My set up: S900 with 128Mb RAM, running 0S9.1, ATI 128 card slot 2, Belkin USB card slot 1.
I've got my eye on a MAXpowr G3 300Mhz on ebay, are there any issues with this manufacturer or this particular card? I don't see their name crop up too often on this list.
Also I've heard of upgrade cards wearing out pretty quickly, would I be wiser in getting a new CPU rather than from ebay? Any general advice/guidelines on CPU upgrades for S900 would be welcome with open arms.
Thanks
The brand name is NewerTech "Max Power" is model name. They were once one of the best upgrade companies. Then went out of business. They have in the last year or so showed up again but not sure what they are selling these days. Likely this is one from the past days. There is nothing wrong with buying a used upgrade. They last a long time and usually if they are going to go bad it's in the first few weeks of use. Do watch out for people selling parts that are defective or damaged. Last time I bought an item on ebay and payed with Paypal there was an offer to buy a money back warranty on defective goods etc. Was only a couple of dollars may well be worth it especially if the seller doesn't offer money back if defective though I think I would pass on any as-is sell . While many people may have a favorite brand most are pretty good and price is perhaps a good way to buy. I would perhaps put them in this order for quality & performace. XLR8(DaystarTech), Powerlogix & Sonnet for companies still in business. NewerTech & Phase 5 both great quality but now gone. Mac Power (maybe a bit off on this name)middle of the road but perhaps the best for C500/600 Zif upgrades. Good luck Will S
