My external drive loads its driver. That's as far as it goes. I can return to the IBM HD by praming once on restart.
Can anyone tell me what is wrong and is it that you can't boot from a ATI drive?
What OS are you trying to use on the hard drive? I ran into a similar problem with OS 9.1. OS 8.X worked okay. However, my problem was an incompatibility between the VST UltraTech/66 adn the Adaptec 2940U2B under OS 9.1. You have a different ATA card, and you didn't mention which SCSI card you have, so it's a long shot that you're suffering the same problem as I did.
You might also try pulling the SCSI card temporarily and see if the problem goes away.
If you have the Adaptec 2940UW, then my suggestion is likely to be useless, as the 2940UW is extremely compatible and does not cause any problems that I've seen. But the other cards from Adaptec could be part of a problem.
Anyway, I'm throwing this out because it is an oddball possibility that would take you a long time to track down on your own, if it was the problem.
In short, try OS 8.x if you're currently trying OS 9.1 and see if that matters. Also, try pulling the SCSI (under either OS) and see if that affects the problem.
