Hello, interested in upgrading my 20 gb internal harddrive to a 120 gb
harddrive internal, can someone help with which brand name drive would be
most efficient as far as quality, speed, and endurance. Will I be able to
added this as a second drive or will I have to replace my existing
harddrive? Would also like to know who to go to, to purchase 128 mb ram.
I am on an S900 G3 running system 9.1. Thank you in advance.

I see you only got one other reply so try giving an answer. I don't know if you've added a PCI ATA card or are using the on board SCSI which the machine came with? A SCSI drive of that size will be very costly! An ATI PCI card and IDE drive will cost you a lot less then a SCSI drive of that size! You can install either type in your machine as a second drive . It should be pretty easy to do. Depending on the age of your 20 gb drive a new drive may make your machine much faster if used as the boot drive. Either can be used as the boot drive.
Which brand to recommend is much for difficult to do at least for me. Several of the brands I would have put on the top of the list have either been sold or no longer exist.
Another change in drives is this time last year all drives came with a 3 year warranty. Now nearly all drives come with a 1 year warranty and cheaper prices. A hard drive is so important to safe guard our data I for one am a bit alarmed at the warranty changes. Are the drives more cheaply made so will have a shorter life span? I have no idea time will tell.
Last year I was saying my short list of hard drives was
1. Quantum
2.IBM
3. Seagate
and forget the rest as they are second best .
This year: Quantum was sold to Maxtor and is now gone. A few Maxtor drives are sold under the old Quantum name of "Fireball" and have metal cases which sell for more then the Maxtor standard plastic hard drive case no other drive maker is using plastic cases that I know of. Plastic cases make me wonder about heat issues but Maxtor drives are sold at very good prices and most people seem happy with them. I won't buy one at this time but that's me.
IBM had major defective drive issues in the last year and sold the drive business to Hitachi. They are now sold as Hitachi or Hitachi/IBM drives. Quality unknown at this time??
Seagate is no longer an independent company but is the only one of my personal top 3 still doing business as usual. In fact i've bought two in the last year just before the 3 year warranties disappeared. Both work great no issues.
Western Digital has sold more defective drives in their days then any other company still in business. To their credit they have always made things right with their warranties. There is reason to believe their quality has improved in resent years. To be fair all companies have made some defective drives over the years.
Fujitsu never big in the Mac world and always second tier now making drives for some Mac Powerbooks. No idea of current quality.
I think Sanyo or a similar name is now also making hard drives no idea of quality ?
So as you can see the market has changed . Buy by price and hope for the best? I'd go with the Seagate myself or maybe the Western Digital and shop for the best price. But that's just me others will likely praise the drive they are currently using unless they've had problems with it. Sorry I can't be of more help. Will S
PS. OWC sells 128mb ram for around $25.00 and has a lifetime warranty.@
