The iMac install CD has an installer which is tailor-made to work with the
iMac, therefore will not install on other hardware; even if you could it might
not contain the necessary software component to make it work.

The FWB CDT driver, version 2.3.2 is known to work with 8.6 if configured
correctly. Even with OS9, the Apple CD-ROM Driver extension version 5.3.1 from
7.6 should still without the need for CDT at all.

eBay might be a good start; do bear in mind that many sellers advertise "OS
8.6" CD but they turn out to be iMac CDs.

As long as the OS9 CD is the full retail version, it will work; the usual
precautions and tweaks with its isntallation, in addition to the special
requirements for installing it into a Umax also apply.

Good luck.

Sam.
